I saw you :)

This week I decided to contribute to 'I saw you' section of Fritha Strickland's beautiful blog!

I'd seen her first couple of entries and thought they were gorgeous! Plus, getting to do an illustration that sums up what made me fall for him sounded great! (I do love drawing him, he has a lovely face!)

'I saw you and you were adorable. The more I see you, the more I adore you'

This picture really sums up how silly and cute he is! And that's why I love him, hence why i used this image! :)

Make sure you check out the rest of Fritha Strickland's blog! I've found it very inspiring and I'm sure you will too! :)

Art Room!

Oooh, I thought I'd share some images of my new art room (come boyfriend's study!) It's all very arty and inspiring and I'm loving it so far :) I've been painting up the beautiful cabinet for a few days! It was rather dark and dingy but now it's fresh!

My fairytale pieces up on the wall! I think they look rather good all framed and together :)

Some of my own work on the top shelf! (ooh and a Kandinsky piece! Love him) I love how light the cabinet is :) (along with gorgeous black handles - I think it works rather well!!)

My boyfriend loves Japan, so I have these beautiful pieces! (I knew he'd like them, so wouldn't mind them being in the room, but also they're very inspiring to me :))

Some pieces Mat (boyfriend) bought in an auction :) by the very talented Matt Hemsworth!

The whole thing :) love it!

The Delays!

New piece for Amelia's Magazine! It's of the band The Delays. I'm really not sure if i like it! It was a very quick piece, and my laptop was on the verge of breaking, so all things considered it's not too bad! :) besides, practice makes perfect!

The illustration is for the Friday night review of the Secret Garden Festival, and you can find the full article here! :)

I quite like that i'm having to work to strict deadlines, I think it'll be helpful in terms of uni next year - time keeping has never been my strong point!! But forcing myself to just do it, and not to let people down can only be helpful! :)

I really do love working for Amelia!

Some old works!

I thought i'd share some of my previous work, since I didn't have a blog to post it on then! :)

We had a 'Grimm and Strange Tales' brief, in which we had to produce some illustrations for an adult audience - I was quite excited to try something a little more sinister! I chose one of my favourite tales, Hansel and Gretel, but with the help of my sister we re-told the story, creating a twist. Unlike the original, it was Hansel and Gretel who were evil, and they took advantage of the 'witch' who had tried to help them.

The fist image shows their father, looking desperate as he realises he can't kill his evil children who had ruined his life!

The second shows the woman following a foul smell, and the shock on her face shows she has made a grim discovery..

Her dog, who has been missing for days, crushed to death by the children! (I'm scaring myself haha)

And finally, like in the original, she is cooked in the oven - I showed it from her prospective, as it is with her that the reader's sympathies lie! Poor woman!

These are two pieces I worked on for a competition, based on conversations and people. I worked more with pastel colours here, but I must say I love the bright colours now!

And the final images were based The Deep in Hull. I really loved using textures in these pieces. It was very experimental at the time, but taught me a lot!

That's all for now, hope you enjoy! :)

Good day!

Hey Hey! I've been to a police volunteer induction this morning! (I've done a couple of crime prevention posters for them in the past, so thought it was about time I became a proper volunteer!) So i'm quite excited to do some more stuff for them :)

I also got my next piece for Amelia's Magazine finished off first thing!

I'm rather pleased with the results - especially considering I gave myself too much to do yesterday really! You can see the article, an interview with David Longshaw (the guy in the illustration) here! I love his collection, they're beautiful!

Oh, and in case you were wondering, the panna cotta came out a little too thick! Darn! I know better for next time though!

What's coming up?

Just a post to let you know what i'm up to today and in the coming weeks!

I've volunteered my illustration services to Amelia's Magazine again, so once I have the images I have until tomorrow lunchtime to come up with something! (yay - I actually love throwing out these quick images!)

At the moment I am making a fabulous three-course meal for my lovely boyfriend, as it is our four year anniversary today! I kind of feel like i'm on come dine with me - keep talking to myself about what I have to do next! I'm tackling panna cotta for the first time, so i'll let you know how that goes!

I got talking to a wonderful poet, Cat Catalyst recently and she expressed great interest in my work! She wants us to work together- me producing some illustrations to go with her poems.
Anyway, things have been manic but now i've moved house and feel settled I want to start work on these! I may set myself a deadline, maybe one every two days!

Anyway, i'll post the fashion illustration when it's done!

Bye for now! x

Amelia's Magazine Illustration

Here is the fashion illustration piece! I keep looking at it, which is usually a sign I don't feel quite right about it :/

Saying this, I don't know what i'd alter so maybe i'm just being daft! I like the stance of the model - I think the angle works well!

It was just another quick piece - i'm loving getting lots of work done quickly! :)

EDIT: i've just done a quick alteration! I've removed what looked like a raised eyebrow and I think it looks a lot softer! :)

You can see this live here in Amelia's review of the Chelsea College of Art and Design's catwalk fashion show! Really beautiful clothing - I loved illustrating it!

Amelia's Fashion Open Design Brief

I thought i'd share the work I created for Amelia's Magazine Fashion Brief!

The image above is an illustration of me! This was part of the competition - an illustration of yourself which would accompany your work if you were chosen to be in the book! I like the drawing but perhaps I should have worked more colour into it? Hmm maybe i'll revisit this sometime :)

I have been really inspired by fashion illustration recently (I plan to write my dissertation on it!), so when I saw this competition I couldn't resist giving it a go myself!

I chose to illustrate designer Ada Zanditon, mainly because of the bold bright designs she creates! The colours really drew me to them.

The final one is my favourite I think! I love working with a combination of line drawing, thick shading, bright colours and scanned images or collage!

In these images I coloured the sections I felt should stand out - the clothes and also the luscious, bright colour of their lips!

I really enjoyed this - was very fun to do! :)

Tom Jones Illustration!

Well here it is, the Tom Jones illustration! Apparently he performed inside the woods, so I wanted to bring this across in my image. It also gave me the opportunity to use different textures, tones and scanned elements - which I love!

I'm quite happy with the way it's turned out, especially since it was executed rather rapidly :)

The illustration can be found on Amelia's blog about Thursday night at the Latitude Festival here, so be sure to check that out too! :)

I've been asked to do a fashion illustration to accompany another article, so on with it I go!

My first post!

I am about to go into my third year of an illustration degree, and with lots of illustration ideas I want to undertake over the summer, what a better time to start a blog!

I have just offered my services to do some work for Amelia's Magazine and have been asked to do an illustration of Tom Jones and his appearance at Latitude Festival last weekend!

I'm excited to get started and will post the result when it is done! :)

If you fancy a nosy at some of my work, here is the link to my flickr account - Abby Wright
